A stairlift is a safe and budget-friendly way for seniors who find it hard to move around their house. It’s handy and brings back freedom for those who avoid stairs. We’ll show you how it works, explaining its features and controls so you can understand how it helps you move between floors.
Each lift model may have its own style, but all our lifts are easy to use and really safe. They’ve got a simple switch to control them—just press and hold it to go up or down the stairs. When you reach the end, it beeps once and stops by itself. If you let go of the switch, it beeps and stops right away for safety. And don’t worry, every lift we sell comes with a seatbelt, too.
How to Safely Climb onto the Chair
Sitting on the stair lift chair is pretty much like sitting on any other chair, but there are a couple of things to remember when you’re getting on or off at the top or bottom of the stairs to do it safely:
Bottom Landing
- Before sitting, check that the armrests and seat are down and secure.
- When you’re about to sit, make sure your hands can reach the armrests and your knees touch the seat front.
- Once you’re seated, use your hand or foot to fold down the footrest. If moving is tough, consider a power folding footrest for easier use.
Top Landing
- Fold down the armrests, seat, and footrest.
- Use the seat lever to turn the chair 90 degrees, making sure it locks away from the stairs for you to sit down safely.
- Once seated, buckle up, then turn the seat back into position for a secure ride down.
Stairlifts are connected to your stairs, not the wall
Many people worry that stairlifts might damage their walls, but it won’t. The rail attaches to the stairs themselves, not the walls. It’s held by support brackets evenly spaced and screwed into place. They work on various surfaces like carpet, concrete, metal, or tile.
How to Control a Stair Lift
Remote Controls
Every stairlift comes with two remote controls. They let you call the chair from either end of the stairs. It’s handy for a caregiver to help the rider. Plus, you can use it like a mini elevator! Just put packages or a basket on the seat and use the remote to send them up or down.
Seat Controls
The stairlift seat ideally has a switch on the armrest. That’s how you control it. Push it one way to go up the stairs, the other way to go down.
The offset swivel seat helps you get off the chair lift safely at the top of the stairs. This way, your feet land safely on the top step, making it easier to stand up.
Stairlifts are a fantastic solution for seniors who face challenges navigating their homes. These devices offer both safety and affordability, giving individuals the freedom to move between floors comfortably and independently. Understanding how these lifts work is essential, and each model, while having its unique style, operates with ease and safety in mind.
