How to Safely Climb onto the Chair

Sitting on the stair lift chair is pretty much like sitting on any other chair, but there are a couple of things to remember when you’re getting on or off at the top or bottom of the stairs to do it safely:

Bottom Landing

• Before sitting, check that the armrests and seat are down and secure.
• When you’re about to sit, make sure your hands can reach the armrests and your knees touch the seat front.
• Once you’re seated, use your hand or foot to fold down the footrest. If moving is tough, consider a power folding footrest for easier use.

Top Landing

• Fold down the armrests, seat, and footrest.
• Use the seat lever to turn the chair 90 degrees, making sure it locks away from the stairs for you to sit down safely.
• Once seated, buckle up, then turn the seat back into position for a secure ride down.
