Akshardham Temple is a great cultural place to visit in Delhi. This temple is located at the NH24 in New Delhi. However, the architecture of this wonderful temple is similar to the one at Gandhinagar in Gujarat. This temple was built under the support and funding of the BAPS (Bochasanvasi Aksharpurushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha).
This temple is comprised of 20,000 statues, Approximately 234 ornate pillars, exquisitely carved pillars made of stones, 9 ornate domes, a spectacular Gajendra Pith, 20 quadrangle shikars, and floral motifs. This temple is mainly devoted to the Swaminarayan and other deities like Shri Sita Ram, Shri Radha Krishna Dev, Shri Uma Maheshwar, and Shri Laxmi Narayan.
Another great part of this temple is that it is built along the river Yamuna and lies over an area of around 100 acres with carved pavilions, beautiful gardens, and water fountains. The main part of this stunning temple is designed with 141 feet high and a beautiful statue of Lord Swaminarayan. Several structures within the temple are available which depicts the culture and history of Hindu Religion.
The building itself is built from Italian Carrara marble and Rajasthani pink sandstone that represents its carved details of flora, dancers, fauna, musicians, and Gods which leave most visitors in awe and couldn’t afford to miss these.
In this temple, there are around 10 halls that take the visitors into deep history. These halls include ‘Sahajanand Pradarshan’, ‘Nilkanth Kalyan Yatra’, ‘Sanskruti Vihar’, The Yagnapurush Kund, the Bharat Upavan, The Yogi Hraday Kamal, Nilkanth Abishek Mandapam, Narayan Sarovar, AARSH Centre, and Premvati Ahargruh, etc.
The whole temple takes around 5 to 6 hours to visit each and every structure of it. Entry to the temple is free. But for light and sound show and exhibitions inside the temple, one has to take tickets which are easily affordable. Other features of this Akshardham Temple are an IMAX theatre and an elaborate musical fountain. The area around the temple building has been converted into lawns with beautiful water fountains.
