In today’s existence, there are many forms and styles of yoga practices. Some of them are well-known and are preferred by various practitioners. Anusara Yoga is also one of them.
This is an ancient form of yoga founded by American yogi John Friend in 1977. Anusara’s name may be translated into different meanings. For example, “Flowing with grace,” “Following your heart” and “Being in the flow” etc.
Furthermore, there are several principles that are associated with the practice of this yoga such as:
- One must cherish and foster the belief that all humans are essentially good
- The use of a prop to accomplish proper back bending, alignment, Opening with a Grace, muscular energy, Inner Spiral, organic energy, outer spiral and a style that emphasize an open-heart for the practice is encouraged
- The practitioner is expected to integrate the yoga lessons into his or her life’s activities on a daily basis.
Another great impact of this Anusara Yoga form is that it is very light in practice, involves fun and entertainment. There is no dramatic action of this yoga form which can not cause stress in the mind of a person.
Anusara appeals to those who want to work both their spiritual and physical well-being. However, Anusara Yoga consists of over 250 poses (asana’s). Almost all of these poses are commonly practiced in the foremost Hatha Yoga styles around the world. These poses help an individual to build their inner strength, tone muscles, and relaxation.
Anusara yoga includes poses like Meditation Sitting Pose (Siddhasana or Sukhasana), Side Plank (Vashishthasana), Tree Pose (Vrksana) and Bridge (Urdhva Dhanurasana or Setubandha) twists, inversions, hand-balances, backbends and forward bends. These poses are usually easy, fun and can be easily performed by anyone. The practice of this Anusara yoga mainly works on three main parts: alignment, action and attitude.
